Comox District Mountaineering Club (CDMC)

The Comox District Mountaineering Club (CDMC) has been organizing outdoor trips since 1928, making it one of the Valley’s longest-running recreation organizations; they’re approaching their 100th anniversary in 2028. With over 150 members ranging from young adults to people in their 80s, the club plans day hikes, backpacking trips, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and other non-motorized activities suited for all ability levels. Most outings happen in Strathcona Park, but they also explore trails around the Comox Valley and elsewhere on Vancouver Island.

Beyond recreation, their stated purposes include promoting conservation of parks and wilderness areas, advancing outdoor education and leadership, and partnering with BC Parks and private landowners on trail maintenance projects. You can find their upcoming trips on Meetup or through their Facebook page, and joining requires registration and a waiver through their website.

The club is running a “2028 Challenge” to encourage member participation in the lead-up to their centennial celebration. If you’re looking for an active, longstanding group to explore the backcountry with, whether you’re new to hiking or a seasoned mountaineer, this is a solid option with nearly a century of local knowledge behind it.
