Comox Valley Youth Music Centre

The Comox Valley Youth Music Centre has been providing music education in the region since 1967. They offer both summer festival programs and year-round instruction across multiple musical disciplines: classical music, jazz, and musical theatre. The organization welcomes musicians at all skill levels, from budding beginners with no ensemble experience through to skilled players looking to learn from professional faculty.

Classical music programs include string orchestra, string playhouse, piano intensive, and festival choir. Jazz programs feature faculty concerts, jam sessions, and ensemble training. Musical theatre offerings range from showcase performances to full productions. The summer Festival of Summer Sounds runs throughout July with concerts, faculty performances, and jazz jam sessions. The jazz jams are donation-based, making them accessible to participants.

Performances happen at various venues around Courtenay including St. George’s United Church, G.P. Vanier Secondary, Sid Williams Theatre, and 40 Knotts Winery. The centre employs professional faculty instructors and accepts volunteers to support programming. Whether you’re a young musician looking for intensive training, someone wanting a creative summer program, or a player seeking performance opportunities with skilled instructors, CYMC provides structured music education across genres and skill levels.
