Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club
Relax on the lawn

The Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club has been around since 1976, offering lawn bowling leagues, tournaments, and social play throughout the year. They run multiple league formats including daytime Webber competitions, Men’s and Ladies Pairs, Mixed Pairs and Triples, Scotch Pairs (both day and evening), and Short Mat bowling on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Regular play happens Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings, with additional evening and weekend sessions. They also host Bowl and Coffee social gatherings for a more relaxed vibe.
The club welcomes everyone from complete beginners to experienced bowlers. They emphasize that newcomers should “come out to learn,” and offer coaching, mentoring programs, and player development resources including video tutorials. If you’re looking to get competitive, they run annual club championships, ladder tournaments, and open tournaments from May through September. Members also travel to tournaments in nearby communities like Nanaimo, Parksville, and Port Alberni. The club keeps detailed records and rankings dating back to 2017, so there’s a bit of a competitive culture alongside the recreational play.
Beyond the sport itself, the club promotes “Exercise, Laughter in the Sunshine” and clearly values the social side of bowling. Volunteer opportunities are available through their membership committee if you want to get more involved. It’s a solid community with nearly 50 years of history in Courtenay, offering both serious lawn bowling and a welcoming environment for people who just want to try something new outdoors.
