BCSPCA - Comox Valley

The BC SPCA’s Comox Valley branch is an animal centre located on Ryan Road in Comox, serving the whole region from Comox, Courtenay, and Cumberland out to Denman Island, Hornby Island, Black Creek, Merville, Royston, Union Bay, and Fanny Bay. They handle animal adoptions for cats, dogs, rabbits, and small pets, take in surrendered animals, and accept stray cats and domestic small pets. As of January 2025, they no longer take in stray dogs—those now go to Unleashed Dog Boutique or through local government licensing services. The centre is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., and operates an Animal Helpline for emergencies and advice.
All adoptions include microchipping and lifetime registration with the BC Pet Registry. The centre also runs community outreach programs, including a pet food bank for families who need help feeding their animals. Like all BC SPCA locations, it’s a not-for-profit that relies on community donations to operate, and they welcome volunteers—the BC SPCA has over 5,000 volunteers across the province helping with everything from animal care to fundraising and events.
The BC SPCA is the largest animal welfare organization in North America and the only one in British Columbia with legal authority to enforce animal cruelty laws. Provincially, they help more than 167,000 animals each year through 31 animal centres, two animal hospitals, spay/neuter clinics, a wildlife rehabilitation centre, and their investigation and advocacy work. The Comox Valley location is part of this network, connecting local animal welfare needs to broader resources and support across BC.
