Comox Valley Head Injury Society

The Comox Valley Head Injury Society supports people living with acquired brain injuries, along with their families and caregivers. They’re a registered charity offering both individual and group support using strength-based, harm reduction approaches. Services are confidential and available to survivors of all ages, from infants through seniors.
Individual support includes one-on-one services for survivors and family caregivers. Group programs provide peer support meetings where survivors can socialize, a lunch program open to survivors and their families, and wellness activities like yoga, mindfulness meditation, music therapy, and art therapy. Families can also access up to 10 free clinical counseling sessions. Beyond direct support, they focus on brain injury prevention through education and awareness initiatives.
One practical program worth knowing about: the Helmets for Kids Initiative provides free helmets to children through age 18 in partnership with ICBC. Their office is on Simms Street in Courtenay, open Monday through Thursday from 10am to 3pm. If you or someone you know is dealing with the effects of a brain injury, they offer practical support and connection to others who understand what that’s like. Volunteer opportunities are available for those interested in helping.
With a team of caring professionals and volunteers, CVHIS provides a welcoming environment where individuals can share experiences, build resilience, and find the resources they need to move forward. For those affected by brain injuries, the Comox Valley Head Injury Society is a vital source of support and hope.
