Comox Valley Schools

Comox Valley Schools is School District 71, the public education system serving students from kindergarten through grade 12 across the Comox Valley. They operate elementary, middle, and secondary schools including Glacier View Secondary, Highland Secondary, and GP Vanier, along with multiple elementary institutions. The district also runs StrongStart early childhood programs for families with young children.

Beyond standard curriculum, they offer several specialized programs: French Immersion (including late entry options), ENTER Programs for specialized secondary pathways, Montessori education, Indigenous education initiatives, environmental and outdoor learning, fine arts and athletics programming, career programs and trades exploration, online learning options, and the Pathways Learning Community as an alternative secondary program. The variety gives students different ways to learn based on their interests and needs.

The district operates on the traditional territories of the K’ómoks First Nation and coordinates reconciliation activities alongside regular programming. They support student-led initiatives like “Everybody Deserves a Smile” (EDAS), a compassion and service-learning program, and organize district-wide events including Model UN competitions. Employment opportunities are listed on their website if you’re interested in working in education locally.
