A Facebook group for buying and selling stuff locally. Furniture, tools, kids’ gear, electronics, bikes—whatever people are getting rid of or looking for in the valley.

It’s active, so if you post something decent at a fair price, it usually moves. Same goes if you’re hunting for something specific, worth posting a “looking for” request. People are generally reasonable, though you’ll get the usual mix of lowball offers and “is this still available?” messages from people who then disappear.

Meet-up spots tend to be public places: grocery store parking lots, the Driftwood Mall, that kind of thing. Most transactions are cash, though some people use e-transfer.

The group has basic rules (no spam, be respectful, that sort of thing) and moderators keep things moving. It’s not fancy, but it works. Better than Craigslist for local stuff, and you can usually tell from someone’s profile if they’re legit.

Good for offloading things too big to donate and finding secondhand deals without driving to Nanaimo.
